Reminder
PLEASE NOTE: This is compulsory maintenance that must be adhered to in order to retain your warranty. Failure to maintain your winch as per the guide below will void your warranty.
If you look after your winch, it will perform flawlessly when you need it most. A well-used winch is a reliable winch.
There is a common misconception that the less you use your winch the more reliable it should be because it’s done very little work. Winches that sit unused for long periods of time are the ones that generally give problems as parts can seize up over time.
What To Do And When
Monthly Maintenance:
- Run your winch rope out using the supplied remote (ensure there is still 1 full wrap of rope left on the drum). When respooling, put tension on the rope and guide the rope back onto the drum evenly.
- Check, clean and tighten all terminals and connections from battery all the way to the winch.
- Check your battery health! Batteries do have a finite lifespan and the more use the battery gets, the shorter the lifespan of it will be. Make sure you’ve got a minimum of a 760CCA battery that you have the winch connected to.
* Make sure you turn the isolator to the OFF position and removed the key (if applicable) once you have respooled the rope back onto the drum.
Every 18 months (in addition to your 3-4 week maintenance):
- Remove both the gearbox and motor and inspect for rust, damage to seals, wear/damage to brushes, foreign contaminants, and discoloured/contaminated grease.
- Replace seals, grease and brushes as required. You can purchase brush kits and seal kits direct from Runva by visiting www.runvawinch.com.au
- For grease, we recommend lithium or moly grease.

Cleaning Your Winch
Always clean your winch with a hose or sponge/brush. We refer to cleaning your winch as washing the exterior of the winch itself. To clean the rope, we would recommend unspooling the rope but leaving it on the drum, then dropping it into a bucket of warm water (no harsh soaps or detergents) and rinsing til clean before spooling the rope back onto the drum under tension.
*** NEVER use a pressure washer as it can damage the seals and cause water ingress which will void your warranty.
REMINDER
If you choose not to follow the maintenance schedule and then experience issues with your product that can be directly linked to a lack of care and maintenance, your warranty claim may be denied.
Simply running your winch in and out every few weeks can avoid 99% of potential issues with your winch and keep it running like new for many years!
